Calcio Storico – War Rugby

A brutal, historic form of rugby / soccer is played in Florence for St. John’s day.  The game is called Calcio Storico and has really only one rule; you can’t hit an unconscious player.  The object of the game is to get a ball in a goal on the opposing players’ side.  That’s it.  Everything else goes. Hitting, kicking, wrestling, throwing . . . whatever you can imagine.  The games tend to be bloody, but are always interesting.  Here is the best documentary I’ve found about it.
